This unique settlement was established in the 1920's and has a fascinating history. Learn about the Aboriginal middens and why the dunes are sacred to the original inhabitants, the Worimi people. Discover World War 2 relics within the dunes and dig for pippis!! You can also enjoy the thrill of Sand Boarding- suitable for all ages from toddlers to grandparents. The perfect family adventure! In addition to sit-down style boarding, we also offer Sand Surfing (Stand up boarding) for those accustomed to surfing and snowboarding (subject to conditions). Enjoy our picnic area in the dunes-we provide shade, tables and chairs so bring along your snacks and drinks and make the most of a fantastic day out!
Sand Dune Safaris is a small, non-commercial, family owned and operated business. We have been operating on the beautiful Stockton Sand Dunes for over 20 years. What sets us apart from other 4WD tour operators is that we do not cater to the large inbound tour groups that visit the dunes daily from Sydney. Therefore we are able to provide you with the friendly, personal service we pride ourselves on! Our focus away from the ‘mass produced” tourist market allows us to be unique in several ways:
We are able to offer Stand Up sandboarding in addition the sit down style. This is because we don’t have an overcrowded dune. In addition, our personal service means we can spend more time overcoming any language barriers, and offering individual attention.
We like to encourage our customers to stay and enjoy their experience for as long as possible. We provide a shaded picnic area complete with tables and chairs. Bring your lunch and enjoy the views!
Our sand dune area is the furthest along the dunes, as we don’t have groups needing to stick to tight itineraries. This means getting to our sand dune area is relaxing, and half the fun!
We can be very flexible and provide our customers with that ‘little bit extra” to ensure your visit is extra special.
We love staying open until late, especially in winter as the sunsets are amazing!
On weekends and during school holidays we run a continuous shuttle service to the dunes. Hop on one of our 4WD's for an exciting ride to some of the best sandboarding dunes available! Here one of our friendly instructors will greet you and make you feel at home. Find a spot under the shade in our picnic area, then stay and play as long as you like. Shuttles run every 15 minutes.
Our vehicles are also available for private charters. We pride ourselves on offering flexibility to our customers, let us know if you are looking for a unique experience for your group and we can tailor a tour to suit your requirements!

Directions
Turn off Nelson Bay Road at the roundabout onto Gan Gan Rd and head toward Anna Bay. Take the first right onto James Paterson Street to the very end. You will come to a car park, we are in the lower carpark right at the end. Look for the camo trailer with the 2 black and white flags on the top, or the army camouflage painted bus.
Cancellation Policy
Tours may be cancelled by the operator at short notice due to bad weather (excessive heat torrential rain gale force winds and thunderstorms). We will notify you via text or email if your activity is cancelled. Tickets are fully refundable in this instance or you can postpone to a later date.
Tours cancelled by the customer outside of 24 hours of booking date/time will receive a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours will incur a 50% of total booking amount cancellation fee.
